John Deacon was born on August 19, 1951 in Leicester England.
He joined his first band, Opposition, in 1965 as a guitarist. A year later he switched to the bass and the group changed their name to the New Opposition. It wasnt until 1970 that Deacon first saw Queen perform at a nearby College. A few months later he met Queens drummer Roger Taylor and auditioned for the group. He joined in 1971 and the group signed with Mercury Records shortly thereafter.
Queens debut album was released in 1973 with the self titled Queen. The album featured songs written by all four members of the band. The over the top, operatic style of the songs and performances built a cult following throughout Europe and eventually overseas and the 1974 releases of Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack were successful. Queen was soon one of rock musics elite bands.
Over the next 10 years, Queen would write, tour and produce memorable albums. 1975s A Night at the Opera reached #4 on the pop charts; 1977s A Day at the Races reached #5; 1977s News of the World reached #3. The bands greatest success came with the 1980 release of The Game, which reached #1 on the pop charts.
Queens last album, Made in Heaven was released on November 25, 1995. Four years to the day after Freddie Mercury died of AIDS.
Perhaps Deacon penned one of the greatest rock songs ever written. Another One Bites the Dust was included on 1980s The Game. The single went to #1 on the pop charts in 1980 and was one of the biggest hits of…
