Tenor Lewis James was one of the most prolific artists of the early jazz era. In all he reportedly made close to 3,000 records from 1917 through the 1930’s.
Performing with the Shannon Four, the Revelers & the Criterion Trio, James was responsible for over 30 top 10 recordings including “My Baby Boy” (#4, 1918), ‘Till We Meet Again’ (#1, 1919), “Golden Gate” (#4, 1919), “Mr. Radio Man (Tell My Mammy to Come Back Home)” (#5, 1924), “What’ll I Do” (#6, 1924), “Pal of My Cradle Days” (#3, 1925) and “Am I Wasting My Time With You” (#5, 1926).
Lewis James died on February 19, 1959.
